Gibson Les Paul Standard- Left Handed Guitar
The current Left Handed Gibson Les Paul Standard is about as close to playing the original 1950's model as you get. The image, the build and hardware has changed very little over the decades and the sound is still a classic warm, clean and raunchy now as ever.
How is this achieved? For a start the body is made from solid mahogany, which provides the Les Paul Standard with its legendary sustain from its twin humberker pickups, whilst the addition of the maple arch top, cleans up the muddiness of the mahogany tones. In fact Les Paul when he gave his first original brief, specified that it should have a minimum of 20 seconds sustain. The neck is glued to the body rather than bolted on and the modern models have gone back to the chunkier pre-1960 neck profile, giving you something you can really yet to grips with, compared with the other modern ultra thin necks you see around. Combined with the perfectly sized 22 frets, a rosewood fingerboard with trapezium markers, its action is superb, making it a joy to play.
The build quility is absolutely top class, with very few problems ever reported. However, some players prefer to get the left handed Gibson Les Paul Standard with chrome rather then gold hardware, due to its reported tendency to discolour sometimes.
The standard 3 way sitching options allow a bright but warm 'Lead' sound and switching to 'Rhythm' thickens up the tones beautifully without it becoming muffled and mushy. The neutral centre position combines the two nicley for certain styles. But where you should be taking this guitar is cranking through a Marshall amp and flying out those power chords and classic rock sounds.
This left handed guitar is not for everyone thought, before you start counting out your hard earned money. The solid body gives it a fair bit of weight which can put a strain on the guitarist, so it is not really suitable for beginners, unless they are loaded and don't care. Much better option there is Left Handed Epiphone Les Paul Studio or a left handed Epiphone Les Paul Special 2.
