Gibson Les Paul Junior Left Handed Guitars

left handed gibson les paul junior guitarsAlthough the Les Paul Junior was supposed to bring the Les Paul guitar within the range of beginners, it quicker gained a very good reputation and began towards professional use as well.

There are very clear differences with the left handed Les Paul Junior guitar, the most noticable being the single P-90 pick up and the flatter slab like body which is flat top compared to the arch top left handed Gibson shape. There are no 'lead' or 'rhythm' switches with just simple volume and tone control knobs fitted.

The modern left handed Gibson Les Paul Junior now incorporates later design changes which came from the 1950's standard and TV models. Now you will find that the lefty Les Paul Junior features a double cutaway body at the horns. Now the beginner can find it easier to access the top frets, a feature that is always difficult as pointed out in the Left Handed Gibson Les Paul Standard review. Having said that it is occaissionally possible to get a single cutaway model.

So in terms of sound and playability, how does the Junior perform? For a start the body is solid mahoganhy, giving it a lovely tone. But, due to its economical design, it is not as weighty as a traditional Les Paul, making it a lot easier to handle and play for longer periods. Combine that with the cutaway design and you have a great classy guitar for beginners. The rosewood fretboard, has an easy action, making travel effortless. Even with just the single P-90 pickup and single tone and volume controls, the familiar Gibson growl and tone is present and the range of tones that can be achieved is remarkable.

Overall a superbly crafted and built instrument suitable for beginners upwards. If you want a cheaper version of a left handed Les Paul Standard with the same sounds, then this is for you. They are very hard to get hold of, so if you see it, you'll probably want to grab it whilst you can.
